SowCare@Toa Payoh: Love in the Little Things

SowCare, the community service arm of the Bible Society, expresses God’s love through practical care and support for vulnerable individuals and families across Singapore.

Each week, SowCare@Toa Payoh reaches out to residents in rental flats, getting to know them, listening to their stories, and noticing what is often easily overlooked.

During one visit, the team met 82-year-old Mdm F, a widow living alone. She had recently fallen and injured her back, making even simple movements difficult. As the volunteers spent time with her, they began to notice the condition of her home. Her mattress was worn, thin, and damp—something she had quietly endured.

In the days that followed, the team returned—not only with food, but with a new bed, mattress, and pillows. What seemed like a small change made daily life more manageable. It brought relief where there had been discomfort, and restored a measure of dignity in her own space.

In these simple acts of care, God’s love is quietly made known, reaching those who might otherwise go unnoticed. In these moments, we begin to see how He is at work, meeting needs and revealing His presence in everyday life.

This same care also extends to families and children.

The Alphabet Project (TAP): Nurturing Confidence Through Love

For many children, home is a place to rest and study. But for some families served by SowCare’s partner, The Alphabet Project (TAP), daily challenges—such as financial strain, limited space, and lack of digital access—can make learning more difficult.

In one family, a broken laptop disrupted both a mother’s work and her children’s schooling. Through TAP, a laptop was provided, helping to restore a sense of stability at home, where both work and learning could continue.

Through weekly TAP Clubs in Bedok and Woodlands, children receive literacy support, meals, and encouragement. Week by week, confidence begins to grow, and families are gently reminded that they are not alone.

And in many other ways across the community, this same spirit of care continues. In 2025, SowCare’s initiatives helped and reached more than 400 families and 4,000 individuals.
