FEATURE ARTICLE: EMBODYING GOD’S WORD IN GLOBAL MISSIONS
Across the world, the Bible Society partners with local churches and communities to bring God’s Word and compassionate care to those in need. Whether in times of crisis, poverty, or displacement, believers are living out the Word through acts of mercy and love.
Take Sri Lanka, for example. When Cyclone Ditwah swept through communities, homes were swallowed by rising waters, families fled with only what they could carry, and farmers watched years of labor vanish beneath muddy floods. Children clung to their parents, unsure when life would feel normal again.
In the midst of this upheaval, the Church became a beacon of hope.
Churches opened their doors to anyone seeking refuge. Pastors waded through floodwaters to reach stranded families. Congregations with limited resources were among the first to respond, sharing food, offering shelter, and comforting neighbours who had lost everything.
Through these acts of care, faith was not only spoken—it was lived. And through these quiet, devoted actions, the love of Christ touched hearts, providing both refuge and reassurance.
This example reflects the work of the Bible Society worldwide: supporting local churches and communities as they embody God’s Word in ways that transform lives, renew hope, and bring light to every corner of the globe.
Working with trusted partners like Alliance Development Trust and Ceylon Bible Society, the Bible Society has responded to families in Sri Lanka affected by Cyclone Ditwah and sent USD21,000 to support efforts in rebuilding communities.
Together, we have helped provide 300 families with:
- Clean Drinking Water
- Hygiene Kits and Cooking Essentials
- Food Supplies
For many, this assistance was a lifeline amid uncertainty. The Church became a refuge not only for believers but for anyone in need, offering shelter, food, and comfort.
Yet, the journey of recovery is only beginning: homes are being rebuilt, children are returning to school, and livelihoods must be restored so communities can stand strong once again. Across Sri Lanka and other nations facing poverty, natural disasters, and conflict, communities are rebuilding while seeking hope, stability, and renewed strength.
Mr Raghu Balachandran, Director of Relief and Development at Alliance Development Trust, shared,
“The Bible Society of Singapore was a great help in allowing us to respond quickly to the needs of affected families.”
Through your enduring support, help continues to reach communities in need, and lives are being gently restored, bringing dignity, reassurance, and a glimpse of God’s love.
Be part of this ongoing work—as together we bring hope, comfort, and the light of Christ to those who need it most.
