Across Asia, a series of extreme weather disasters like record-breaking rains, powerful cyclones, and catastrophic floods has unleashed destruction on a massive scale. Countries such as Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, India, the Philippines, and Pakistan are now battling overwhelming damage, as families cling to rooftops while their homes, farmlands, and entire communities are swallowed by rising waters and fast-moving mud. 

In this desperate hour, and with a Commissioner of Charities (COC) permit, we are launching an emergency appeal to raise over SGD300,000, providing life-saving assistance to hopefully more than 1,000 families in urgent need of food, clean water, shelter, medical support, and the hope found in God’s Word. 

SRI LANKA: A Nation Barely Out of Bankruptcy—Now Struck by the Worst Floods in Its History 

Cyclone Ditwah has unleashed the highest rainfall ever recorded in Sri Lanka, setting off destructive floods and landslides across nearly every province. 

The General Secretary of the Ceylon Bible Society shares, “This may become the most severe flooding event in our country’s history… lives have been lost, the death toll continues to rise, and thousands of families have been displaced. Communication is down, and evacuation is extremely challenging.” 

At least 56 lives have been lost, 21 remain missing, and more than 12,000 families (over 40,000 people) have been affected. 

For a nation still reeling from economic collapse, bankruptcy, and the long shadow of civil war, this disaster cuts deeper than ever. Families already struggling to survive now face complete devastation. 

BANGLADESH: Entire Villages Submerged as Monsoon Floods Erase Livelihoods 

Severe monsoon floods have drowned vast low-lying regions, destroying homes, crops, livestock, and drinking-water systems. Hundreds of thousands urgently need shelter, clean water, and food. Over 500,000 farmers have lost their harvests—a crippling blow for a nation already on the frontlines of climate vulnerability. 

INDIA: Record-Breaking Flooding Leaves Millions Stranded and Fields Destroyed 

Floods across Punjab, Kolkata, and surrounding regions have affected over 3.5 million people, submerging tens of thousands of hectares of farmland. Countless families have lost their homes and livelihoods overnight, with infrastructure and essential access routes swept away. 

THE PHILIPPINES: Succession of Deadly Storms Forces Families into Sudden Displacement 

Relentless typhoons and storms—including Tropical Storm Bualoi, Typhoon Kalmaegi, and Super Typhoon Fung-wong—have triggered landslides, fatalities, and widespread destruction. Tens of thousands of homes have been damaged or destroyed, leaving families without clean water, electricity, or medical care. 

PAKISTAN: Monsoon Chaos Claims Lives and Sweeps Entire Communities Away 

With more than 1,000 deaths and over 1 million people affected, Pakistan is enduring one of its deadliest flood seasons in recent years. Entire villages have been submerged, roads and bridges destroyed, livestock swept away, and thousands left homeless as floodwaters continue to rise.

近期，破纪录的暴雨、强烈的气旋及灾难性洪水接连席卷亚洲多国，造成前所未有的大规模破坏。斯里兰卡、孟加拉国、印度、菲律宾及巴基斯坦深受重创。无数家庭被迫站在屋顶避难，眼睁睁看着家园、农田与整个社区被迅速上涨的洪水与汹涌泥流吞噬。 

值此危急时刻，并已获慈善总监批准，我们发动紧急救灾募款，目标筹募新币 300,000新元以上，为至少1,000个急需援助的家庭提供维生物资，包括：食物、洁净饮用水、临时庇护所、医疗援助，以及来自上帝话语的盼望。 

斯里兰卡：未脱破产困境，再遭史上最严重洪灾 

旋风“迪特瓦” 带来全国史上最高降雨量，几乎所有省份遭遇毁灭性洪水与山体滑坡。 

锡兰圣经公会总干事表示： “这可能成为我国历史上最严重的洪灾……生命不断流失，死亡人数仍持续上升，数千个家庭流离失所。通讯中断，撤离工作极其艰难。” 

目前至少56人遇难、21人失踪，超过12,000个家庭 (4万多人）受影响。 

对于一个仍承受经济崩溃、国家破产与内战创伤的国家而言，这场灾难无疑是雪上加霜。原已挣扎求生的家庭，如今几乎一无所有。 

孟加拉国：季风洪水吞没村庄，生计尽失 

严重的季风洪水淹没大片低洼地区，房屋、庄稼、牲畜及饮水系统被毁。数十万人急需食物、洁净水与庇护所。超过50万名农民失去收成，对这个本就站在气候灾难前线的国家而言，是沉重一击。

印度：破纪录洪水困住数百万人，良田尽毁  

旁遮普、加尔各答及周边地区遭遇历史性洪水，超过350万人受影响，数万公顷农田被淹没。无数家庭一夜失去家园与生计，基础设施和主要交通通道被洪水冲毁。 

菲律宾：风暴接连来袭，家庭被迫紧急撤离 

热带风暴“巴洛依”、台风“卡尔马埃吉”及超强台风“凤凰”接连侵袭，造成山体滑坡、人员伤亡与大范围破坏。数万间房屋受损或被毁，无数家庭缺乏洁净水、电力与医疗资源。 

巴基斯坦：季风肆虐夺命，社区被洪水吞噬 

巴基斯坦正遭遇近年来最致命的洪灾季节，已超过1,000人遇难，逾100万人受灾。村庄被淹、桥梁被毁、牲畜被冲走，随着洪水继续上涨，数千家庭无家可归。

Sharing the Light this Christmas

Christmas is a season of hope, love, and giving. Yet, while many celebrate with joy and abundance, vulnerable communities in Singapore and around the world continue to face hardship, often unseen and unheard.

In Myanmar, one of the most disaster-prone countries in Asia, people regularly experience the devastation of earthquakes, floods, cyclones, droughts, and landslides. These natural disasters, intensified by climate change, leave families with little time to rebuild before the next crisis strikes. Yet, even in these dark moments, God’s provision shines through.

In Tonzang township of Chin State, a widow pastor shared, “I am very much thankful to God who answers my prayer for my daily bread. Now I receive a bag of rice and cooking oil. I have a living God. May God give many blessings to the donors.” Such testimonies remind us that even a simple gift of food or necessities can become a powerful answer to prayer. Here at home, there are many who are also in need. Each festive season, rough sleepers at S3P@Bible House receive warm dinners, bento meals, and love gifts that remind them they are not forgotten. In Woodlands, Sembawang, and Yishun, elderly residents gather for joyful Christmas celebrations with food, games, and care packages.

Children from underprivileged families in Bedok benefit from weekly reading programmes where dinner is provided, as well as outings to the zoo, science centre, and more. At the end of the year, bursaries ensure they have what they need for school. Migrant domestic workers find encouragement and sisterhood at monthly *ADEO gatherings, while our migrant brothers enjoy meals and outings on Sundays that bring joy and connection. These simple acts of kindness carry the message of Christ’s love into the lives of the overlooked and vulnerable.

Dedicated volunteers from *SowCare@Toa Payoh walk closely with underprivileged children, imparting literacy skills, accompanying them on outings, and nurturing their overall growth. They also extend practical support: one single mother of three, struggling to care for her eldest daughter with special needs, received cash relief that helped her keep going. These efforts remind families that God has not forsaken them.

This Christmas, you can make a significant difference in the lives of these vulnerable communities. Your donation will allow us to continue bringing the joy of Christ’s birth to those in need, whether in nations plagued by turmoil; amongst the homeless and elderly or within struggling families in our midst. Together, let us shine His light into the darkness and share His love with the vulnerable this festive season.

圣诞有爱  困境无碍

圣诞节是充满盼望、爱与分享的季节。然而，当许多人在喜乐与丰盛中欢庆时， 新加坡及世界各地的弱势群体仍在默默承受困苦， 他们的需要，往往无人看见，也无人听见。
 
缅甸是亚洲最易受灾害影响的国家之一。人们经常面对地震、洪水、飓风、旱灾与山体滑坡的破坏。 气候变迁加剧了灾情，使许多家庭还未来得及重建，就再度陷入下一场危机。 然而，即便在最黑暗的时刻， 上帝的供应显明无遗。
 
缅甸钦邦栋赞镇的一位寡妇牧者分享：“我满心感谢上帝应允我的祷告，赐给我每日所需的粮食。我收到一袋米和食用油。我有一位永活的上帝。愿祂大大赐福捐赠者。” 这样的见证提醒我们，即使是一份简单的食物或生活用品，也能成为祷告蒙应允的有力回应。在我们身边，本地的需要同样迫切。每逢佳节，安宿处@圣经大厦的露宿者都会收到爱心礼金、便当餐盒或享用热腾腾的晚餐，这让他们深知自己并未被遗忘。居住在兀兰、三巴旺及义顺的弱势长者们，则能在温馨的庆祝聚会中共享美食、参与游戏，并领取关怀礼包。
 
勿洛部分贫困家庭的孩子们受益于每周晚餐伴随学习的阅读计划，他们也参加丰富的出游活动，如参观动物园、科学馆等。年末时，所提供的助学金帮助受惠孩子为新学年做好准备。外籍女佣透过*ADEO的每月聚会找到姐妹情谊和得到鼓励，而客工们则在周日享有聚餐与出游的活动。这些看似简单的关怀行动，把基督的爱真实地带进被忽视和遗忘的群体中。
 
在*耕心@大巴窑，忠心的志愿者陪伴弱势儿童，教导他们阅读与写作，带他们外出活动，培育他们的全面成长。志愿者也给予实际的支援：一位独自抚养三名孩子的单亲母亲，因照顾有特殊需要的长女而无法工作，经济捉襟见肘。志愿者亲手将现金援助送到她手中，成为她坚持下去的力量。这些行动向受惠家庭传递着一个清晰的信息：上帝并没有离弃他们。
 
今年的圣诞，您同样可以为这些弱势群体的生命带来深远的改变。您的捐献，将使我们能够继续把基督降生的喜乐传递给最需要的人——无论是在动荡不安的国家，或在我们当中的无家可归者与长者，及那些艰难求存的家庭。让我们携手同行，在这欢庆的佳节，将上帝的光照进黑暗，与弱势群体分享祂的爱。

HELP BRING GOD’S WORD TO THE NATIONS

The feelings of anguish of the displaced who have lost their homes, despair of the poverty-stricken who struggle to put food on the table, or loneliness of the marginalised have not eased. In Bangladesh, Mozambique, Ukraine, Israel, Palestine and many other regions, countless individuals are still in need of holistic care and the hope that only God’s Word can bring.

Phiona Komujuni, a young girl from Uganda born visually impaired, was abandoned by her own father days after she was born and thrown in a pit hole in a nearby village. She battled with bitterness in her heart and unforgiveness towards her father for 15 long years. This changed when she received a braille Bible given to her in school. Her story is a testament to the transformative power of Scripture.

“I started reading and memorising Scripture and my love for the Bible grew strong. I cried bitterly and thank God that as time went by, I was able to forgive my biological father. Now, I feel relieved and happy,” testifies Phiona.

Phiona’s story is a testament to the transformative power of Scripture. In Uganda and many other countries, countless individuals are still in need of holistic care and the hope that only God’s Word can bring. Rebuilding lives and bringing the Word of Hope to over 20 nations remain at the forefront of the Bible Society’s global mission over the years.

Closer to home, we are reminded that there are many in Singapore who are often unseen and forgotten. Through *SowCare’s partnership with various local movements, the Bible Society brings love, peace and joy to the migrant workers, migrant domestic workers, underprivileged children, marginalised, poor and needy elderlies, and the homeless in our midst.

Sanita Achumi, a *MDW from Nagaland, Northeast India, shares: “I would like to thank you (*ADEO) for organising programmes to make us feel refreshed and have fun on our off days. May God bless you all to be a blessing to more people as we are blessed now.”

菲奥娜·科姆朱尼是乌干达的一位少女，她天生失明，出生几天就被父亲抛弃在附近村落的一个坑洞里。这让她长达15年心中充满了苦毒和对父亲的不原谅。然而，当她在学校里收到一本盲文圣经后，这一切发生了改变。菲奥娜的故事见证了圣经的转化大能。

“我开始阅读和背诵经文，并越发喜爱圣经。我痛哭流涕，感谢上帝，岁月流转，我原谅了我的生父。现在我感到宽慰和喜乐。”菲奥娜见证道。

就近而言，我们意识到新加坡也有许多人常常被忽视和遗忘。通过耕心（新加坡圣经公会的社区服务事工）与本地各机构的合作，圣经公会为新加坡的客工、外籍女佣、贫困儿童、边缘群体、贫困和需要帮助的年长者以及无家可归者带来爱、平安和喜乐。

As we celebrate the 202nd year of the Bible Mission in Singapore, we are reminded of God’s heart for the mission and its rich history of Making the Word of God Known to all Peoples. Our work is a living testament to Jesus’ call to be His witnesses to the ends of the earth (Acts 1:8), a mission that is far from finished. This year, as we look ahead, it is important for us to focus on strengthening our Bible engagement and advocacy, as well as holistic Bible Mission efforts to suffering nations and marginalised communities in Singapore. Aligned with Singapore’s 60th year of independence, SG60’s theme of Building our Singapore Together mirrors our banquet’s theme of expanding our intercultural missions—from one city to all nations.

今年是圣经宣教事工在新加坡开展的第202周年，我们铭记上帝对宣教的心意和“让世人都能够接触到圣经“这丰厚的传承历程。我们的服事正是耶稣所托付的使命之见证，要直到地极作祂的见证。(使徒行传1:8) 至今使命仍在继续，远未结束。在展望未来的同时，我们意识到必须加强圣经触践与倡导的工作，并扩展对受苦国家及本地边缘群体的整全圣经宣教事工。今年，新加坡也将欢庆建国60周年，国庆 (SG60) 的主题为“一起打造我们的新加坡”。这正好与我们晚宴的主题相呼应——“跨文化宣教：从一城到万国”，彼此激励，回应上帝对列国的托付。

DECLARE is a Bible proclamation movement that celebrates the restoration of the public reading of God’s Word by Christian communities across nations and generations.

In the first 3 years since 2017, DECLARE began as an intergenerational Arts & Family event held at the Bible House at Fort Canning in Singapore. Over the pandemic years this expanded online to involve over 50 nations & 150 local languages. As we gather from different tribes and traditions, we come to unite in one voice on a common foundation – the Word of God – to bear witness to God’s light of truth and love in a dark and despairing world.

Bobby Sng Scholarship for Theological Studies

In memory of the late Dr Bobby Sng – a prolific author, spiritual mentor, and a dear brother and friend who has touched the lives of many – The Bible Society of Singapore (BSS) launched the Bobby Sng Scholarship for Theological Studies on 15 October 2021 to build up Christians who wish to pursue theological training and serve in spheres that Dr Sng was fiercely passionate about – Bible mission, community service and youth work.

As a visionary, missionary and giant of faith, he is widely recognised as having had a pivotal influence on generations of evangelical Christians in Singapore, after having nurtured thousands of students, many of whom are leaders in Singapore today. He has impacted so many lives, brought many to eternal salvation, and has helped restore many to spiritual wellness. He was truly an extraordinary and exemplary follower of Christ.

Your generous donation to this scholarship is a divine God-anointed investment in the future of the church and the community, empowering our new generation of Christians to reach out and minister to the community. What do you want to be remembered for? What if you could make a meaningful contribution and leave a positive legacy for future generations beyond this lifetime? For many people, leaving a gift in their will is a final opportunity to make a lasting impact.

Our mission entails more than just making the Bible available, accessible and credible to everyone; it also entails providing holistic care for those in need. This is accomplished by rendering humanitarian aid to impoverished countries and supporting philanthropic endeavours so that they will encounter God’s Word and experience God’s boundless love for them.

In recent years, The Bible Society of Singapore has received generous legacy gifts in memory of Dr Bobby Sng, Datin Doris Ong, Ms Daphne Hong, Dr Koh Eng Soo, Mdm Lim Geok Soan, Mr Sim Miah Kian, Mrs Beatrice Chew, Ms Ng Kim Chew, Mdm Ong Chye Gian, Ms Ester Chuoong, Mr Earnest Lau, Mr Wong Kok San, Ms Wat Wong Ping and Mrs Szto Sim Chuang. We sincerely thank their families for their continued support of the Bible Mission.
